Accessibility and standards are becoming increasing important to webmasters. There are a number of sound reasons to make accessibility and standards a priority for your website.
The recent spat between ICANN and the U.N revealed a huge gap in internet access levels of people from non english speaking backgrounds. Not only does this represent a problem for the countries and nationalities effected, and the internet itself, it also represents an opportunity for webmasters to get extra traffic, extra input, and build multilingual communities.
Over the coming months ill be making this a priority for Peak SEO, by allowing the site to be accessed in as many differant languages as possible.
Accessibility for disabled persons should also be a priority.
Conforming with standards not only makes your site more accessible, but will result in increased speed and performance. The Joomla development team will be increasing its incorperation of standards in future versions. For Peak SEO, there are a couple of priorities.
i) The move away from table based design to CSS and DIV based design.
ii) WCAG 1.0 Priority 2 and Section 508 compliance. This should be possible by version 1.2 of Joomla.
In short, over the coming months ill be doing my utmost to gradually bring Peak SEO inline with best practice, and continuing that policy into the future.
